Description:
This study is based on the original Betula Study that started in 1988. A strong research environment has been built during the course of the four waves of data collection in the original Betula. The design of the study, the recruitment of participants, the cognitive tests employed, DNA extraction and genotyping, health issues are some of the features of Betula that make the study unique worldwide and set the stage for a strong research environment. A group of core researchers has been formed throughout the Betula Study has been conducted. This group has created strong international contacts for collaboration. The overall topics for the planned research within the present study are: (1) Longitudinal assessment of memory and health, (2) Dementia, neurodegeneration and cognitive-function related gene analysis, (3) Brain imaging and memory, and (4) Early diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases.
