Description:
The research focus of the ´National School of Research on Education and Sustainable Development’ (SRESD) is on students’ learning about environmental issues and the factors that influence how such learning is experienced, as well as forms and content of instruction. In recent years, in education as well as in national and international policy documents, there has been an increased interest and concern for teaching about environmental issues. At the same time, it is clear from studies of teachers and other educators that developing effective ways of dealing with such issues is far from straightforward. This is not helped by the fact that insufficient research attention has been paid to investigating the nature and dynamics of students’ learning in environmental education. The contribution of SRESD is to enhance development of research and practice, and consider learning in relation to its complexity and ecological, economical, social and ethical aspects. The SRESD will be organised through a board of representatives from all departments of the nine participating universities, with Uppsala University’s Faculty of Educational Science as the formal host. Major work and activities will be facilitated by a steering committee comprised of a coordinator and scientific leader at the Department of Curriculum Studies, Uppsala University. To enhance the School’s international outlook and exchange, a research advisory group of international scholars in the field will be established.
