Maria Brandén is a PhD Student in Sociological Demography, within the Stockholm University SIMSAM Node for Demographic Research (SUNDEM). Her main areas of interest are gender structures, internal migration, and the labor market.
In her dissertation work, she uses Swedish register data to study how occupational branch and occupational characteristics affect men's and women’s migration propensities, as well as the gains and losses from internal migration. She is further working on how migration motives and tied moving differ between men and women and how this in turn is affected by gender role attitudes. Another research interest is gender differences in distance moved when couples form a union.
