Svensk sammanfattning

English summary

The project aims to study how different office forms, with a focus on open-plan offices, affects the employees and the productivity during various conditions. The results are expected to contribute with extended knowledge on the connection between office type and health, along with how aspects in the physical work environment interact with leadership and employees personal preferences.

Open office solutions (popularly known as open-plan offices) are introduced by a lot of companys and organisations who used to have individual offices. However, open office solutions are far from new solutions. Historically they have been the norm. What's new is that even senior officials are placed in the open office.

Although a large and increasing part of the working population are sitting in open office solutions, there are very few scientific studies on how the office type prospectively affects the employees health, job satisfaction and productivity. This project is intended to give a deeper understanding on how the office environments affect on the employees and if the leadership can moderate the negative effects that have been noted in some types of open office solutions. This is expected to be of significant use when future office environments are planned and contribute to improved occupational health, satisfaction and productivity among office workers.
